Chinese Direct Investments, new project for equity exchange in Milan

MILAN: Italy it'll represent a point of beginning for chinese investments. That was the topic moved forward during the summit has been held at Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan, at the presence of Fang Jianguo, vice president of China Beijing Equity Exchange, special department in charge of privatization of previous state's managed companies in China after 90's.

The Institution represents the concrete intention moved by Beijing to create new dimension of introducing chinese economic potential on international scene. After first step focused on internal issues, now CBEX is going to introduce research's program to allocate direct investments abroad; for Europe, Beijing has fixed its Office in Milan, developing collaboration with italian professionals.

For this reason, during the summit has been introduced the activity of China Milan Equity Exchange, head by Marco Carone, lawyer and specialist on company law and business analysis in China, the activity of CMEX managed in synergy with other participations, like Italian - Chinese Chamber of Commerce, will support those business purposes that from chinese side will need advisory to allocate direct investments on european market.

The realization of CMEX will lead Milan city on main role for making research, improving business relations among european partecipants, reinforcing the important position that the city will get in occasion of next Expo in 2015.

As follows you can read my analysis published on Corriere Asia as special report for the summit - (italian version).

I settori principali?

Milano in Italia, Tokyo in Giappone, Miami negli Stati Uniti e Johannesburg in Sud Africa.

Chinese Contemporary Art - Liu Bolin In Italy- 2010

In Tokyo, Paolo Cacciato: I'm very pleased to introduce here on my blog the last project mediated by, Asian Studies Group, multidisciplinary social promotion association in collaboration with Italy China Foundation and produced by Boxart Gallery. Hiding in Italy 2010 is a visual - photo production focused on one of most controversial artists on chinese contemporary art's view. Liu Bolin nowadays is really popular in China and he was introced on his first time in Italy for a shooting - tribute in Verona by Boxart Gallery in 2008. This year we've done our best offering to Liu Bolin a more deep cultural opportunity to realize his artistic research in our country. Last April, the artist visited Venice and Milan and selected particular locations for his new shooting that is going to get shape on important photo exhibition in Milan, like the first real national exhibition by Liu Bolin in Italy.

liubolin2010.jpg

It was big surprise for me know that Bolin is famous in Japan as well. Indeed on several japanese blogsites it's possible to see his most famous shoots. I loved to find out several photos selected by his first experience in Verona

Japanese Blogsite about Liu Bolin

as follows you can read official press release for Hiding in Italy.

MILANO & VERONA: On the occasion of Liu Bolin’s return to Italy, two years after his first residency programme, Boxart is promoting the second Italian production of works by the Chinese artist, in collaboration with the Italy China Foundation, chaired by Cesare Romiti and with the Asian Studies Group, the cultural-exchange association between Italy and Asia.

With the cooperation of:
With the support of:

The project by the Chinese artist, who became famous with his Hiding in the City series, has come to life in buildings and places that are of social and historical significance for the history of Italy. These include the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo and the La Scala opera house in Milan, but also in St Mark’s Square, the Rialto Bridge, and the Conzafelzi Bridge in Venice, all of which are authentic icons of Italian culture.

After the shots he made in Verona in 2008, Palazzo Lombardia, a symbol of Italian modernity, also “posed” in 2010 as the background for Liu Bolin’s “camouflage”. Milan is also the setting chosen for the presentation of the Hiding in Italy project which is to be presented to the Italian and international public in the autumn this year. It is in this city that Forma, the international photography centre and exhibition space set up in synergy by Fondazione Corriere della Sera, Contrasto, and ATM Milano is located.

L'opinione: Internazionalizzazione, nuove sfide e opportunità in Asia orientale.

TOKYO: Interzionalizzarsi.

WHERE TO STAY?

According to the period of staying, it is possible to choose among the numerous solutions offered by this fantastic city, choosing the best quality / price relation.

FOR SHORT STAYS…

Solutions thought for go-ahead young people who want to get the linguistic experience together with a vivid cultural exchange.

DORM: in this kind of lodging all the spaces are in common, the chamber is for more people, the kitchen/living room area and the toilets are in common.

SHARED CHAMBER: lodging shared with one or two other people; it offers more spaces then a dorm and is very cheap.

GUEST HOUSE: differently from the dorm and the shared chamber, the common spaces are only the kitchen/living room area and the toilets, even if the bathroom may be private in certain occasions, while the chamber (which can be closed with a key) is single. The services supplied by the Guest House are different according to the lodgings; sometimes it is necessary to participate to the cleaning up of the common spaces, as an accord among flatmates.

FOR LONG STAYS…

For all those who choose to spend a longer linguistic stay in order to better enjoy the Japanese life, we recommend

GUEST HOUSE: for the lovers of the interaction among different cultures, for the ones who prefer the group life and don’t need too big spaces. Private chamber with common rooms.

MONTHLY MANSION: lodging right for those who want to keep their own independence. The flats, in luxury option, too, are furnished and equipped with all the necessary.

The cost usually varies according to the location and the standard, but it’s the most advised choose to spend there long period.

Renewable Energy 2009: Tokyo’s relaunch for specific appointment about the energy field

TOKYO: It’s not only a mere politic recall anymore, that of  Japan to the “energetic and ecologic” question, but a further step toward the realization of a structured project about a developing  economy which points to the “green economy”. This is the size the Renwable Energy 2009 will be inaugurated in Tokyo with. Ten Italian firms were there to take part to the important event coordinated by the Japanese Council for Renwable Energies.

The event, which is taking place from 24th to 26th June at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, in the immediate suburb of the Japanese  megalopolis, provides the participation of the major firms and organizations in the sector and in the research and industry of the renwable energies and the presentation of the last products, technologies, services and information about the environmental care. The fair will host also the “PV Japan 2009”, event dediated to the Fotovoltaico sector.

On the follows my article published on Corriere Asia for italian readers. English version available on request.

Tokyo Riders: the photo exhibition presented by Asian Studies Group

Asian Studies Group is pleased to introduce the first exhibition that will take place at the ASG's new cultural lab in Milan city centre.

From 23/01/2009 to 14/03/2009

The photo exhibition titled "Tokyo Riders, living in megalopolis - the perception of a new aesthetic" will include 20 original releases of Laura Liverani professional photographer has joined several artistic experieces in Eastern Asia, in particular in China, Hong Kong, and Japan.

The concept of the show is strictly related to the Association's project: the promotion and introduction of contemporary social scene on eastern asia countries, focusing the attention on those daily aspects that entirely realize a new and concrete aesthetic dimension.

That seems more true and interesting if we consider the cultural and aesthetic image of Japan as commonly is thought of from an international point of view. We're used to seeing picture of traditional Japan, or to representing japanese sense of beauty as geisha or misterious women while they're deep in a tea cerimony or ikebana.

In a different way, we'd want to take Tokyo as symbol of the cultural and social change still in progress in Japan and as clear revenge of the aestehetic need to evolve in a more concrete dimension.

The comprehension of real contemporary life is essential to partecipate in a more conscious way to the social and cultural dimension of the biggest megalopolis in the world.

ASEM Summit in Beijing: a resolution for financial crisis.

It has already started the consultation activity of the 7th summit of ASEM (Asia and Europe Meeting) taking place in Beijing today and tomorrow.

Prime ministers of 43 states from Asia and Europe are discussing about the recent financial crisis of international markets. During the opening cerimony Manuel Barroso, president of European Commission focused his attention on the value that the support of Asian countries  and in particular of China, could represent to create an international security found.

The firm position of European Commission consist of a proposal which all one's efforts will put into a regulation plan for bank system. On this purpose 20 countries will also meet next 15th November in Washington to arrange a common and operative strategy.

ASEM Background

ASEM started in 1996 with the First Summit in Bangkok (Thailand). Since then, Summits have been held every two years alternating between Europe and Asia. The last ASEM Summit took place in Helsinki in 2006. The next Summit will take place in Brussels in 2010. The Summits provide overall political guidance for the process which involves ministerial meetings, seminars and joint projects mobilising parliaments, business, civil society and other stakeholders. It acts as a dialogue facilitator, covering any political, economic and social issue of common interest. It is also a policy making laboratory, testing new ideas, transferring knowhow, notably on the European integration process to interested Asian partners. It manages growing Asia-Europe relations, enhancing synergies with other bilateral and multilateral fora involving Asia and Europe. ASEM aims at building a stronger partnership between Asia and Europe enabling each region to better understand the other.

On the following an articleof mine published today on Corriere Asia - english version available on request.

Learning Japanese to surviving disasters

On the following an interesting opinion about the social importance in japan of speaking japanese. Are you too a foreigner working or travelling in Japan? I think you could find very interesting such opinion edited by Prof. Kazuyuki Sato, professor of sociolinguistics at Hirosaki University in Aomori Prefecture - Honestly I've never considered the value of japanese language's use according to  the dimension introduced by Prof  Sato.  But for several times I felt the need to understand terms in japanese about earthquakes during my stay in Japan...

Japan is a country that suffers a large number of earthquakes. With registered foreign residents reaching a record 2.15 million last year, according to the Justice Ministry, it has become more than likely that foreigners will be among the victims of such disasters.

However, many foreign residents do not understand important Japanese terms related to earthquakes, such as yoshin (aftershock) or hinanjo (evacuation center). This is in part because the government has made an effort to offer foreign residents information in English and other languages, rather than simple Japanese.

When an area is hit by a strong earthquake, radio and television broadcasts are almost entirely in Japanese. Non-Japanese with poor Japanese-speaking abilities are often perplexed by earthquake-related announcements.

A prime example of this problem was the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. Some foreigners were unable to do anything but wait in their damaged residences for their friends to find them. Even those who fled to nearby parks were often confused over what to do next, as they couldn't read the information posted only in Japanese.

In the event of a natural disaster, even Japanese people suffer a dearth of information. It's nearly impossible for the government or the media to supply foreigners with information in their own languages. With a growing foreign population speaking a profusion of languages, Japan faces a problem of how to deliver emergency information.

Many linguists, including myself, have suggested the adoption of the so-called Easy Japanese system for the delivery of emergency information.

The Easy Japanese system concerns the kind of expressions to be used to provide foreign residents with crucial information when a disaster occurs. These expressions may be used for radio broadcasting, subtitles in television news, posted notices or community communication systems.

To communicate important information to foreign residents, a limited vocabulary of about 2,000 words could be used to produce expressions equivalent to Level 3 (second from lowest) on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), which is deemed sufficient for arranging meetings with friends or explaining what one wants to buy when shopping.

One example sentence is as follows: Tsunami, takai nami ni tsuite oshirase shimasu. A-shi, B-shi no umi ni, tsunami ga kimasu. Umi no chikaku wa, abunai desu. Sugu ni, umi kara toi, takai tokoro e, itte kudasai. (Now, information on tsunami, or high waves. A tsunami will hit City A and City B. It's dangerous for you to remain near the sea. Go immediately to a place that is far from and high above the sea.)

I believe such easy instructions in Japanese can provide non-Japanese with sufficient guidance to evacuate to safety.

The Easy Japanese system has other rules for both spoken and written language. For example, a sentence should be about 35 Japanese characters or less, while difficult terms should be replaced by easier ones: kesa (this morning) can be replaced by kyo asa, while kiretsu ga haittari shite iru tatemono (a building that has cracks in it) can be translated as jishin de kowareta tatemono (a building damaged by the earthquake).

To ensure that our system would work for rescue and relief workers, we have conducted an experiment demonstrating that foreign participants whose Japanese skills were equivalent to JLPT's Level 3 understood 90 percent of the content when information was delivered in Easy Japanese expressions. The ratio, however, decreased to about 30 percent when normal Japanese was used.

Until volunteers trained in offering help in foreign languages can arrive in an earthquake-hit area, all necessary information can be provided in Japanese only. Therefore, it seems unlikely that any system other than Easy Japanese can be effective in providing crucial information, particularly during the first 72 hours after a powerful earthquake occurs.

When considering how best to deliver accurate information immediately to those in need, we should not stick to the somewhat fixed idea that information should be provided to foreign residents in their own languages.

In today's Japanese society, with its increasing number of people of varying linguistic backgrounds, I believe the most effective way of providing disaster information is by using Easy Japanese expressions.
